Love the Skin You’re In!

By Takora McIntyre

In the UK and the US, researchers questioned over 2,000 girls between the ages of 10 and 14. 77 stated they felt ugly or did not like the skin that they are in. This shows that the majority of teen girls do not feel comfortable in their own skin. The number one question is, why? Why do girls feel the need to hate their outside image? The answer is media. The media constantly portrays one ideal image of beauty forgetting that this world is filled with beautiful women of many different shapes, sizes and skin colors.

There are many definitions of beauty. Each and every skin tone and body shape is beautiful in its own way. We all were put on this earth to rock the body that we were born with. There should be no desire to change or become someone else. Just being ourselves is good enough, because selfacceptance leads to a more satisfying life.

There are a few steps to loving the beautiful you. The first step to love the skin that you’re in is to accept yourself. Accept whatever color or shape you are and embrace it. Show the world how beautiful you are. The next step is to take care of your body. Eat healthy foods, drink tons of water, practice good hygiene, and exercise. Not only does it positively affect your body it also positively affects the mind. You should then choose a style that fits you. Don’t try to dress like your favorite celebrity, try to dress like yourself. Wear colors that bring out your skin tone, and clothes that speak for you. The last tip is to always remember beauty is on the inside. Remember to be respectful to others and show your personality because it is far more important than how you look on the outside.
